Beyonce’s amazing performance of “At Last” at the Inauguration Ball left some people mad and vengeful. And who might that be, you ask? None other than uber-hypocrite Etta James who, according to her, the song “At Last” was hers, and not for Beyonce to perform.
“You guys know your president, right? You know the one with the big ears? Wait a minute, he ain’t my president, he might be yours, he ain’t my president,” James told fans during a concert in Seattle last week.
“You know that woman he had singing for him, singing my song - she’s gonna get her a– whipped. The great Beyonce…But I can’t stand Beyonce. She has no business up there, singing up there on a big ol’ president day…singing my song that I’ve been singing forever.”
Uh…has Etta forgotten something? She’s not even the first one to take on that song…or the second either! She’s actually the third person to do an “At Last” rendition, with Glenn Miller being the first in 1942, followed by Nat King Cole in 1957. On top of that, Etta’s version wasn’t even the most popular; Glenn’s version knocked her out of the park.
