Luciano Pavarotti’s unfortunate battle with pancreatic cancer ended with his untimely death. Pavarotti was an opera star of huge proportions with millions of fans following his every move, and a family that loved him very much.
Pavarotti is succeeded by his wife Nicoletta and his four daughters (three from a previous marriage). Thousands came to pay their respects to Pavarotti in his hometown cathedral Friday. The open white casket of Pavarotti had mourners in tears.
More than 10,000 people came to see the great tenor. The coffin was surrounded by wreaths and he was dressed in white tie and tails, his hand holding a white handkerchief and a rosary. A red veil was placed at his feet.
“He’s a symbol of Modena, a symbol of Italy, he’s international,” said Simone Sarrau, a mourner who waited in line until nearly midnight Thursday. “He’s a one of a kind. There’s only him, and there will always only be him.”
His funeral will be held on Sunday and will be televised. Millions of people from all the dignitaries will be watching including political, operas and culture.
