jackson 5Jermaine Jackson says he and his brothers are plotting a reunion tour, with brother Michael set to play a part. The bass guitarist and singer told BBC6 Music that “sometime in 2008,” fans can expect a full scale reunion of the group that scored big in the 1970’s with “ABC,” “I Want You Back” and “Never Can Say Goodbye.”

The famed group’s last album came in 1989, five years after their “king of pop” sibling left to become one of the biggest recording artists of all time. Jackson said the group believes it has an obligation to reform. “We feel we have to do it one more time. We owe that to the fans and to the public.”

Jermaine, who was lead singer of the combo in the early days until his younger brother took over, added that Michael has been active in the reunion plans.

“He was at the meetings. Michael will be involved.”

“He has to be,” he said. “He is a Jackson.”

Jermaine said the group, which at its peak featured Tito, Marlon, Jackie and Michael, had curbed earlier plans to reunite because of Michael’s child abuse trial in 2005.

“There’s been so much going on, getting over all the hurdles that we all were faced with during Michael’s trial,” he said.
“But we are stronger than ever. I’m gonna say thank you, thank you, thank you so much to all the fans and the supporters of my family all over Europemusic“,”4″,”0″,”",true);”> , all over the UK especially, who came out to show their love and their support.”

The reunion may actually result in a new album. The band is “in the studio at the moment,” according to Jackson.
